Allow me to fuck your mind: Raging Bull or Taxi Driver?
I’ve always loved Taxi Driver more. I can’t really choose which film is better since they’re both insanely good and better than 99% of the entire history of cinema, but there’s something about Travis Bickle that I just love more than anything. Driving through the streets of 70’s NYC with his narration is like a cinematic orgasm for me.
Another really tough one! Whew. Well, I love both. I’ll watch anything if either of these women are in it. I think I’m gonna go with Laura Linney though. To me, she is such a genius, natural actress. It’s like it’s not even talent with her… it’s just like BREATHING or something. Overall, she’s made more movies that I’ve loved than Helen has. She constantly delivers these flawless lead performances, it’s like neverending.
However, I think Helen is amazing as well and very underrated these days. She directed, produced, and starred in (alongside Colin Firth, Bette Midler, and Matthew Broderick) a movie called Then She Found Me that is AN INCREDIBLE MOVIE. Seriously, everyone, put this in your Netflix queue now. I couldn’t believe how good that was b/c no one even knows about it. Meanwhile, it should have had Oscar buzz. I’m really happy she won for As Good As It Gets, though. That’s one of my favorite movies and she is ridiculously good in it.
I can’t choose which one is more talented. It’s impossible. They’re both impeccable. I love Oldman so much that I’d probably pick him instantly if it weren’t for Spacey in American Beauty, though. I mean, he’s incredible in everything but in that movie… I can not even describe how obsessed I am with that performance of his. It’s one of my all time favorites given by ANY actor. I guess I can’t really choose. Overall, I think Spacey has been in more movies that I’ve loved, but Oldman is just ridiculously good. And on top of that, I have a deep and passionate love for all Harry Potter actors. Though, my favorite Oldman performance probably isn’t Sirius. But it’s close. I could go on and on and dissect both careers but I won’t. BOTH ARE FLAWLESS. DONE.
Romy and Michele's High School Reunion // My Cousin Vinny
I LOVE BOTH SO MUCH. But probably Romy & Michele because it’s even more ridiculous. It’s not just funny, either, there are so many little nuances in the performances that make it endlessly uproarious. My Cousin Vinny is probably overall a better movie, and I adore it, but Romy & Michele is just so so silly and that is so me.
ahhh To Rome With Love!!! I'm so excited! but how bummed are you on the name changes? It's so generic and lame now.
I really don’t care what it’s called. They had to do it because the former titles were confusing to a lot of people. I’m sure they said it had to have a more direct title like Midnight In Paris. Commercially it makes sense.
can you recommend some good documentaries on celebrities?
Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work George Harrison: Living in the Material World No Direction Home (Bob Dylan) Britney: For the Record Woody Allen: A Documentary The Love We Make (Paul McCartney in NYC after 9/11) Pearl Jam Twenty The Union (Elton John & Leon Russell)
I’m sure I’m forgetting a lot, and some of these are more about music than the actual celebrity, but there aren’t many docs like Joan’s that I can think of. That one is honestly the best and most real for me, though. If anyone has any suggestions for more great celeb docs, I’d love to hear them.
What did you think of something borrowed and Bride wars? Do you think they were essentially the same?
No. Bride Wars was way more tolerable, despite Anne Hathaway. Although, Something Borrowed had John Krasinski, so it does get a point there. Obviously, I love Kate Hudson but she doesn’t make the best choices. But the plots aren’t the same. Two girls fighting over a wedding date is not the same as the giant mess that Something Borrowed is. Although both movies are not great, I think Bride Wars is harmless fun and touching at the end, whereas Something Borrowed is just painful to watch.
