“I’m watching these people up on the screen and I started getting hooked on the film. I started to feel, how can you even think of killing yourself, I mean isn’t it so stupid? Look at all the people up there on the screen, they’re real funny, and what if the worst is true? What if there is no God and you only go around once and that’s it? Well, ya know, don’t you wanna be part of the experience? You know, what the hell it’s not all a drag. And I’m thinking to myself, Jeez, I should stop ruining my life searching for answers I’m never gonna get, and just enjoy it while it lasts. And after who knows, I mean maybe there is something, nobody really knows. I know maybe is a very slim reed to hang your whole life on, but that’s the best we have. And then I started to sit back, and I actually began to enjoy myself.”—Hannah and Her Sisters

Well of course there would be Annie Hall. Run! Go! Watch immediately! It is widely considered to be Allen’s best film and one of the best movies ever made.
My favorite Allen films are the ones in which he stars in as well as writing/directing, so I would say look that up on IMDb and check out some of the plot summaries and pick something. If I’m being honest, pick something from the 70’s, 80’s, or 90’s with him in it and go from there. No one performs his words as well as he does, and there are very few people who can make me laugh like that. He has to have some of the best delivery and timing in history, it’s just insane. Vicky, Midnight In Paris, and Whatever Works are three of my favorite Allen films, though, and he isn’t in them, so I guess my answer to your question is to just watch every movie he’s ever made. LOL. I just can’t do a Top 5. A Top 10 would be easier… but still!
I haven’t seen many of his earlier works but I will eventually, so hopefully someone can shed light on those. I understand that they were more focused on comedy than plot, and have tons of sight gags and things like that, which is perfect for me because I live for that stuff, so I can’t wait.
Are you one of the estimated 65,000,000 people being affected by Hurricane Irene this weekend?
I am! Been waiting for a good excuse (like I even need one) to have a good ol’ Woody Allen marathon weekend. Started with Hannah and Her Sisters last night and Manhattan this morning. About to move onto Manhattan Murder Mystery. I ALSO HAVE PIZZA.
I hope all of you can ride out the storm safely! I’m in Central NJ where apparently we don’t have much to worry about (now that I’ve said that, my house will probably be destroyed in the next 45 minutes). My family down the shore has safely evacuated, and my family in NC is luckily visiting my cousin in Missouri, so I’m relieved everyone is safe and sound.
Ok guys, stay safe and expect many Woody Allen-related posts! Oh, and I got quite a few new followers from my posts on The Rum Diary, so welcome everyone!
i hate it when theaters don’t give you the option to see the movie in 2D. also for movies like this one where the lighting is scarce the 3D just makes it even darker! ughhh anyhow, as pretty as jim sturgess is Harry Potter wins this argument!
Harry Potter wins every argument. Next time I am fighting with someone I am just going to be like “HARRY POTTER!” and walk the fuck away like the boss I am.
I am pissed b/c it is Free Movie Tuesdays and as you all know I want to see the Fright Night remake, but it’s only playing in 3D and 3D blows and it’s going to ruin watching the film for me so now we are going to be stuck watching Anne Hathaway run after Jim Sturgess on a bunch of windy days yelling “Cheerio!” or something.
Really we are going to see Harry Potter again is what I’m saying.
BUT UGH I WANT COLIN FARRELL BITING PEOPLE THIS IS NOT COOL. How much money does 3D have to not make before they fucking give up on this shit?
Mirroring the “Scream 4″ film concept of a “movie-within-a-movie” theme, the “Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life” experience will introduce guests to the fictional “Stab” slasher film franchise and beckon them to visit the production of “Stab 8,” currently “shooting on location on the backlot.”
The fantasy world of the movie collides with reality when aboard “Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life” guests are transported through Universal’s famed backlot—-the heart of the world’s most famous horror moviemaking studio—and find themselves being stalked by one of the most dangerous slashers in horror history: Ghostface.
“Terror Tram: Scream 4 Your Life” casts guests as victims in this living horror film and elevates the “Halloween Horror Nights” experience to astounding new levels of blood-curdling realism.
Well, I disagree because Scarlett is not a good actress. She is very beautiful. Visually, she would make a great Marilyn, but someone with more talent would need to back up that performance. I honestly could see Catherine Zeta-Jones in the role. She has the same classic Hollywood beauty looks and is a very good actress, plus she has insane charisma and presence on screen much like Marilyn. I’m sure there are other good candidates I am not thinking of but my god not Michelle Williams.
This has been known for a while, sorry you’re hearing just now lol. Who did you want? Because I love Michelle Williams acting-wise.
Yes I know, every time I have heard about it over the months since it was first announced, it has annoyed me. The picture of Michelle on the imdb page for the movie like actually bothers me. I will take this all back if she is incredible in this role but I just think she is one of the most overrated actresses of all time. I don’t even think she sucks, I think she’s fine, but not to play Marilyn Monroe.
Overall, I kind of have a chip on my shoulder about anyone playing Marilyn because she is just so iconic and I don’t want her to be portrayed a certain way in a movie. It’s not fair, people don’t really know her and they just believe anything they see in the movies/read. My father was very close with Joe Dimaggio and so I feel a personal attachment to things like this b/c of certain things I know/stories I’ve heard. It’s not totally Michelle’s fault that this annoys me and I know it’s not the first Marilyn film to be made, but whatever, they could have picked someone better than Michelle.
Like I said, Catherine Zeta-Jones comes to mind. Who do you guys think would have made a good Marilyn?
