No, I haven’t. I can understand why people would say that, but for me, I don’t usually judge a film adaptation by how much it is like the book. I just judge it as a film - its own animal.

Someone left me a message saying that Lolita (the book) is a very dark comedy and that Adrian Lyne’s version kind of missed that point. Like I said, I haven’t read the book, but I can identify with this b/c I LOVE black comedies and Kubrick nailed the uncomfortable hilariousness. Plus, he had Peter Sellers. Come on now. Oh and Sue Lyon! Such a better Lolita than Dominique Swain.

I found most of Lyne’s film to be a complete drag. It was hard for me to finish, honestly. With Kubrick’s, I enjoyed every second so much and the 2.5 hours sped by. Sure, it’s not perfect, but in my opinion, is the better of the two films.

What’s your question, exactly? I mean, this is nothing new, you know? Tons and tons of movies have basically the same plot. It is done because it’s easier than reading hundreds of scripts looking for an original, good story. You just call up two famous people, throw a pile of money at them, and once you get that done, everything else is simply paint by numbers.

I have never seen it. Anyone want to reply to this and leave some opinions of Simon Birch?
